New Studios for Stoke-on-Trent

ACAVA (the Association for Cultural Advancement through Visual Art) have announced that they have acquired a lease on premises in the former Spode Works in Stoke-on-Trent. In a collaboration with Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Arts Council England, they will convert it into 41 artists' studios over the next six months.

The British Ceramics Biennial (returning from 26 September-8 November 2015) is already established on the eleven acre site, and with the addition of studios, student accommodation and other arts organisations, it is set to become an important creative hub.

In May the Artist Development programme (run by The New Art Gallery Walsall in partnership with Turning Point West Midlands) with AirSpace Gallery held an event that explored models of Artists' studios, in which Duncan Smith from ACAVA spoke in light of the plans. Audio from the day can be found here.
