A major new exhibition, the Plymouth Contemporary Open 2015, will showcase new, up and coming creative talent alongside nationally and internationally significant artists.

The Open is a partnership between Peninsula Arts, Plymouth University and Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery.

Call for Submissions

Open to all contemporary visual artists, national and international, working in any medium, Plymouth Contemporary Open invites submissions that explore the relationship between history and the very latest innovations and understanding within contemporary art practice.

Selection Panel

The work will be selected by a highly respected panel: Helen Legg, Director, Spike Island, Bristol; Sam Thorne, Artistic Director, Tate St Ives; Judith Robinson, Partnerships Officer, Plymouth City Council; Dr Sarah Chapman, Director, Peninsula Arts; Chris Cook, Associate Professor (Reader) in Painting, School of Art and Media, Plymouth University and Professor Alan Schechner, Head of School of Art and Media, Plymouth University.

Prizes include:

£2,500 Overall Prize - selected by panel

£1,000 Additional prize - selected by panel

£1,000 Peninsula Arts new artist award

£500 Audience choice award

Peninsula Arts Gallery

The work will be displayed in the Peninsula Arts Gallery; the largest contemporary art space in Plymouth.

Peninsula Arts is the wide-ranging public arts programme of Plymouth University, catering to many varied audiences, raising aspirations and enriching lives through high quality cultural experiences.  We are invested in the cultural development of the city and provide support for creative initiatives, projects and festivals that attract new voices to the region and showcase the wealth of talent within Plymouth.

The application process is now open. Free entry by digital submission only.

  • Shortlisting notification: Thursday 30 April 2015
  • Private View: Friday 10 July 2015
  • Exhibition open: Saturday 11 July to Saturday 29 August 2015
