Public Debate on Artist-led Philanthropy

  • leeds

Arts Fundraising & Philanthropy is holding a series of public debates during 2015/16 with the aim of raising awareness about topical issues in relation to the arts fundraising agenda.

We are planning three debates before the end of March 2016 – the first one takes place in Leeds in August 2015:

Artist-led Philanthropy – are our artists key to ensuring that we make a step change in giving for the arts and culture?
In light of the continued squeeze on arts funding, how can local and regional galleries, museums and theatres make up the funding shortfall and foster thriving communities? Does the main answer lie in galvanizing our artist community to lead the charge to support institutions to make a step change in giving?

The session will be chaired by Professor Ann Sumner (Public Art Officer, University of Leeds) and speakers confirmed so far include:

  • Richard Andrews – UC Berkeley, Associate Director of Centre for New Music and Audio Technologies (Berkeley)
  • Dr Marta Herrero – Lecturer in Cultural and Creative Studies
  • Keranjeet Virdee – CEO South Asian Arts
  • Rory Wardroper – Fundraising Consultant
