Julie Cook: Sightlines, Public and Private (Lives) 2016.
Study Day
Julie Cook: Sightlines
Saturday 5 December from 11am – 5pm
At the Lindop Building, University of Hertfordshire College Lane Campus
This study day will examine some of the issues around the increasingly public and mainstream nature of nudity, stripping and burlesque and the body as a site for dance led experimentation. With contributions from established photographers and filmmakers it will examine the particular challenges for photographers working in and around the fascinating parallel universe, which is the exotic dancing industry in London and in Las Vegas. Contributors include:
Lara Clifton an academic and former stripper, artist Nerys Matthias well known for her work with the male muse (and the male nude), we will show film maker Jane Hilton's film about the Nevada 'Bunny Ranch', and photographer and writer Gerry Badger will speak about his writings on the erotic portrait, and architectural historian Paul Davies will discuss the spectacle of Las Vegas and collaboration with Julie Cook.
