Southbank Centre vacancy: Learning and Outreach Manager

Southbank Centre and the Arts Council Collection are seeking an experienced and innovative Learning and Outreach Manager to join the team and deliver the Education Action Plan for the Arts Council Collections’ 70th Anniversary National Partners Programme.

The Arts Council Collection is the national loan collection of modern and contemporary British art. Founded in 1946, the Collection is the UK’s most widely seen collection of modern and contemporary art. It has no single home but is promoted and shown through strategic partnerships across sectors and at a range of venues that host long loans from the collection. This activity is administrated by Southbank Centre from three bases: collections staff are based at the Hayward Gallery, there is a paintings store in London, and a team is based at Longside at Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) to manage a storage facility and Longside Gallery.

2016 marks the 70th anniversary of the Arts Council Collection and the launch of the National Partnership Programme, a new scheme to support the artistic ambitions of a new constellation of partner galleries. The aim of these partnerships is to build on the existing curatorial skills within these galleries and deepen the Collection’s long-standing relationship with these key museums and galleries and significantly increase audiences for the ACC. As part of the partnerships there will be also be new digital and outreach programmes which will support the exhibitions programme and engage and reach out to new and diverse audiences beyond the gallery walls.

We are looking for a Learning and Outreach Manager with excellent experience of managing and delivering an innovative arts education programme across a number of art forms, to deliver an Education Action Plan for the National Partners Programme, which will set out the individual and collective learning activity and targets of each partner including the Collection, and how activity will increase children’s and young people’s engagement with the Collection. The Learning and Outreach Manager will coordinate a learning forum between the 4 partner learning teams, work with partners to engage communities, stakeholder groups and schools local to the partner venue with the Collection and explore opportunities to trial collective learning projects between the National Partners.
