NEW CREATIVE MARKETS PROGRAMME CONCLUDES AFTER HELPING 500+ LONDON CREATIVE BUSINESSES MAKE OVER £2M SALES IN NEW MARKETS

New Creative Markets (NCM) was a professional development programme for the Creative Industries, delivered by a consortium of four arts organisations -SPACE, Cockpit Arts, Four Corners and Photofusion- which ran between 2012 and 2015.  Co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, it was designed to help artists, designers & designer makers increase the sales of their work and achieve greater sustainability.

SPACE has just released a 3-pages brochure reviewing the results of this unique programme.

Almost 600 London-based small creative companies and freelancers took part in New Creative Markets, and were offered free training tailored to their needs. By the end of the programme, participants achieved £2,236,174 in sales in new markets, raising their turnover by £5,000 a year and their profits by £3,500 a year. This allowed NCM participants, who only earned about one quarter of the average London salary at the start of the programme, to bring in an extra £300 per month in income. The Gross Added Value (GVA) of these creative businesses increased by 83%, contributing to create an additional £1,954,543 for the London economy.

New Creative Markets managed to engage creative practitioners from diverse backgrounds, all around London. The programme received excellent feedback from its participants, whose majority felt it made a valuable and lasting impact on their practice and business.

In light of the challenges faced by London-based creative businesses, SPACE and partners will launch a new programme, London Creative Network, to continue their work supporting artists, photographers, designers and designer-makers. London Creative Network will run from 2016 to 2018 and is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

‘In a challenging economic climate, the New Creative Markets professional development programme has provided vital support to sustain small creative companies and freelance creative individuals in London.’ - Gilane Tawadros, CEO, DACS (NCM Strategic Partner)

‘New Creative Markets is an initiative to be nurtured and encouraged for the confidence it inspires with possibility for everlasting benefit.’ - Maureen Paley, Galerist and SPACE Trustee
