EXHIBITIONS AND EVENTS

Movement of the People – Part 2
Art Exchange, Colchester
3 November - Saturday 26 November 2016

Movement of the People is an exhibition in three parts which creates a platform for bringing together work by internationally renowned artists and street level activists to focus on the on-going war in Syria and the effect of conflict on a shifting and often displaced population.

A celebration of the extraordinary creativity coming up from the streets of Syria. Disseminated through the internet, protest art takes on a powerful role of rebellion as it strengthens solidarity, breaks the barrier of fear and offers hope. This show includes cartoons by one of Syria’s best known and loved artists, Ali Ferzat, cellphone film by Zaher Omareen, animation of satirical puppets by Top Goon, posters from the Alshaab collective, prints by artist Tamman Azzam and graffiti stencils brought together by Ibrahim Fakhri.

Also, don’t miss the Thinking Aloud Round Table Discussion on Thursday 17 November from 6-7pm as part of the exhibition. Co-editors of the seminal book Syria Speaks: Art and Culture from the Frontline, Malu Halasa and Zaher Omareen will be joined by artist Ibrahim Fakhri to discuss the powerful role of protest art in Syria today.

Lee Grandjean: Yes, let's go. They do not move.
