For the second time, a-n will be supporting artists to attend the preview of the Venice Biennale. With a short deadline, a-n members are invited to submit their applications without delay.
a-n is offering artists bursaries of £400 to contribute towards the costs of attending the 56th Venice Biennale, including the preview period of 6-8 May 2015. The bursaries are exclusively for emerging to mid-career practitioners who hold an a-n Artist membership.
This year’s bursaries follow on from the success of the first round of this popular Go and see bursary strand in 2013, when 23 artists were supported to visit the Biennale.
Attending during the three-day preview is a great chance to see high calibre art while also benefitting from the many networking and press brunches, previews and parties.
Bursary recipients will be part of a supportive peer network of a-n members attending the event. On their return they will be expected to share their experiences with the wider arts community through blogging or posting a review on the a-n site.
New ideas, new people
Feedback from the 2013 bursary recipients was overwhelmingly positive, with artists describing the trip as useful and inspiring, both in terms of new creative ideas and making contacts: “It was a great opportunity to meet new people (artists, curators, cultural managers) and reconnect with other international contacts,” said one artist.
Another artist listed the benefits of the trip: “The opportunity to meet other artists and curators whose work has inspired my practice. To see first hand what new developments are taking place in the art world right now at a global level. To be able to meet, on an equal basis, international curators whom I would not have had the opportunity to come across without this trip.”
These bursaries are open exclusively to artists who hold a current a-n Artist membership. Applications for the bursaries are being accepted until 12 noon on Wednesday 25 February 2015.
