Acorn Bank is offering a 3–month fellowship for an artist/illustrator during the spring months of 2015.

This is an unusual residency opportunity with an extraordinary National Trust site in Cumbria, the former home of Dorothy Una Ratcliffe - an author, poet and patron of the arts.

Acorn Bank is keen to continue Dorothy Una Ratcliffe's ethos and commission an artist/illustrator to spend time in their unique herb garden and produce a new contemporary guide for visitors.

The selected artist/illustrator will be provided with accommodation on the site and will have the opportunity to create a new work entitled the A Particular Herbal for Acorn Bank. Research material will be available and the artist/illustrator will have access to the gardeners and research information on the uses and history of herbs and of the Acorn Bank site itself.

There may also be an opportunity for the artist to exhibit in a room within the house throughout the 2015 summer season. At this stage we are open to all ideas as to the outcome of the residency although we are particularly interested in artist/ illustrators who would like to produce a small limited edition book, a guide in digital format or both. We welcome your ideas.

For more information and how to apply please see the artist's brief at www.artsandheritage.org.uk/news
