Guerrilla Arts Project - creating engaging environments in a mental health setting

Submissions are invited from visual artists across all mediums to take part in Alternative Futures Group’s Guerrilla Arts Project 2014/2015.

At Alternative Futures Group we support people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental health problems and are committed to our vision of ‘a world where people control their lives’. We strive to achieve this in all that we do and are committed to delivering services which support our Service Users to live fulfilled, exciting lives as part of their local community.

We recognise there are times in people’s lives when they are unable to live independently in their own homes and remain committed to providing Person Centred care and support for people staying within one of our eight North West Treatment and Recovery Centres.

We also recognise the importance of the physical environment in the rehabilitation process and for this reason wish to commission artists to take part in our ‘Guerrilla Arts’ scheme, in which we aim to transform each of our Treatment and Recovery Centres into places which use visual arts to aid the healing process.

We are now looking for three artists to work either individually or together in our Treatment and Recovery Centre in the Wirral.

The theme is either Treatment and Recovery or Hope. The artists will use any media, whether that be installation, photography, painting, sculpture, murals... to transform the currently quite clinical settings into inspirational, stimulating, thought provoking, peaceful environments. It would be beneficial if service users could be involved in the creation of the artwork but not essential.

Could you be one of our Guerrilla Artists?

The fee for each artist will be £200 + cost of materials

Proposals can be emailed to dawn.moorhouse@alternativefuturesgroup.org.uk or posted to Alternative Futures Group, Lion Court, Kings Drive, Kings Business Park, Prescot, L34 1BN

  • What you plan to create, with sample images if possible
  • How this fits the theme of either treatment and recovery or hope
  • What materials you would need including approximate costings
