Following the extraordinary success of BALTIC 39 I FIGURE ONE in 2013, BALTIC is delighted to announce a call for submissions for BALTIC 39 | FIGURE TWO, an open submission exhibition to be held at BALTIC’s project space at BALTIC 39 from 6 August to 7 September 2014.
BALTIC 39 | FIGURE TWO is an opportunity for artists to test works and ideas, or to develop works in progress within a public context. The exhibition will be selected by BALTIC Chief Curator, Laurence Sillars and Assistant Curator, Katharine Welsh.
Launched in April 2012, BALTIC’s project space was conceived primarily as a location for artists to try new projects and take risks within a supportive environment and to facilitate discussion around the production of new work. This annual open submission exhibition strand aims to encourage and support artists to develop their practice beyond the studio through short-term projects and experiments.
BALTIC 39 | FIGURE TWO will last for five weeks and be made up of ten projects by ten artists, each lasting five days. Artists will be assigned one of the two gallery spaces at BALTIC 39. Proposals that demonstrate an immediate benefit to the development of recent work or works in progress will be prioritised. Only work made during the past twelve months (July 2013 – present), currently in progress, or made for (or during) this exhibition is eligible. Exhibiting artists will receive a fee and, through additional support, will be encouraged to programme events during their exhibitions.
Interested applicants should visit baltic39.com for full exhibition terms and submission details.
The deadline for submissions is Midday on Friday 11 July.
